Indian car of the week: India’s Town Car

That title deserves an exclamation point. This week’s Indian Car of the Week is the Hindustan Ambassador, known locally as India’s Lincoln Town Car.

The Ambassador has been in production for 50 years, and it looks and feels like it. Whereas even the most basic of modern economy cars are fitted with power accessories, strong crumple zones, and a 100-horsepower engine, Hindustan Motors decided to buck the trend. The Ambassador is fitted with a 71-horsepower engine, and is sparsely equipped.

You can still buy one fresh from the factory today, if you so choose. But we have a feeling you’ll be more inclined to purchase next week’s Car of the Week…
