First day in Delhi

Delhi is immense. Packed, blurry, hazy, quick, and immense. It’s somewhat frightening how fast things move — how people don’t ever stop to smell the roses. But if they did stop, they would likely be steamrolled by a moped or a Tata Indica. Womp womp womp.

It’s the end of my first full day in Delhi, and Evie’s first day of non-wedding-related sightseeing. We hired a driver and visited most of New Delhi’s major sites. (This is in contrast to Old Delhi, which our driver told us was too congested to see.) How did we manage to fit in so many monuments and attractions? Every time we suggested a new one, our driver, Jai, said, “Why not?” The right kind of attitude for traveling.

Pictures to come, soon. We’re currently trying to re-plan our journey to Varanasi, which we originally intended to take by train. Our travel agent is ferociously on the phone with the Ministry of Tourism trying to secure us a spot (“in the ministers’ car, just for you!!!!!!), so we’re about 50-50 on our chances of going by train tonight. Otherwise, by car.

Have a wonderful time and keep letting us know about your travels. Most of us have never been to where you have been, and wherever you are going to be, but we are sightseeing with you.

    Love,
    Grandma Rita
